ALGAE PROBLEMS

Algae will form when

(1) Sanitizer is low or in a reduced state of activity.

(2) Ph values to high or to low.

(3) Filter problems. (poor circulation)

(4) No active algaecide in water

(5) TDS levels to high

(6) Using cheap chemicals, cheap chemicals increase TDS levels, cheap chemicals burn up quicker by the suns UV and you will require up to 3 times the amount to equal better brands. Cheap chemicals are not compatible with better brands and could cause more problems to the pool. Some chlorine and acids sold in some tool shops in this area are cheap and manufactured for animal use.

YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED, cheap chemicals are a danger to health and could cause damage to your pool, (protect the health of those that use your pool and protect your investment, don’t penny pinch, it will you cost you far more in the long run if you do).

The correct method of killing green, yellow algae is as follows.

(a) Switch off pump

(b) Sprinkle the full tub of shock over the water walking around the pool, leave for 24 hours.

(c) Turn on all valves (drain, skimmer and vacuum). Turn filter control to circulate, turn on pump and allow water to circulate for 2 hours this will help kill any active algae in the pipe work around the pool.

(d) Switch off pump, turn filter control to filter position, turn off skimmer and vacuum up the residue of chlorine on floor of pool,

(e) Back wash to waste, turn off vacuum and drain valves turn on skimmer valve and back wash for 2 min’s, rinse for 30 seconds

(f) Switch off pump, turn filter control to filter; open drain and skimmer valves switch on pump now add Clear N Clean algaecide. (mix Clear N Clean with water in a bucket and pour the contents into water as you walk around the pool). Allow all the water to circulate for 4 hours then test Ph Values.

(g) The correct way to reduce Ph values is as follows. Turn off pump, open drain and skimmer valves. Mix 3 litres or 3 kg of Ph reducer into water stir to mix and dissolve pour the contents of the bucket into water slowly as you walk around the pool, leave the contents to mix slowly with pool water for an hour then switch on pump and allow circulating for 4 hours. Retest the water and repeat if required. It is very important that Alkalinity levels stay correct or in the area of 80 to 180 ppm if alkalinity is to low Ph values will fluctuate up and down making Ph values unstable, if to high Ph will rise and cause calcium problems and reduce chlorine activity

(h) Once Ph values are corrected, switch off pump put filter control to close, close all valves (drain, Vacuum and Skimmer) open up pump lid and deposit a jolly Jel cube this will help collect the very small partials of dead algae in the filter

(i) If you have black algae in the water normally seen in grouting you will need to attack this problem in a different way.
